Poverty can be considered as major problem in the philippines and a global issue. it is caused by so many factors based on the views of the different schools of thought. it is major problem due to its effects in our society and its citizens. one result is the hunger situation which is an alarming one. in the philippines, there were more than 17 million undernourished filipinos based on the report of food and agricultural organization in 2005. the chronic under-nutrition status of many filipinos especially children means that their health, physical growth and development are also affected (unicef). these would lead to lower chances of finishing school and being unproductive adults later in life. another result of poverty is poor economic growth, since poor people cannot save money and of course cannot invest, they lack chance to join market opportunities. the government on this note is obliged to provide the needs of the poor especially when it comes to services. if more poor people will be in one society, more money should be allotted to satisfy their needs. third result of poverty is child labor. if parents cannot provide the needs of their children, they usually send them to work at a very young age. these children who are supposed to be the 'hope of country' will not be able to go to school. lastly, poverty may result to increase number of people who will make crime. due to hardship in life caused by the living conditions of these poor people, they sort to illegal activities which of course can damage the economy.
