The poem was about two sisters who suffer constant verbal and physical abuse from their father.
The poem was about:Physical Abuse Verbal Abuse Mental Trauma Violence Addiction (Drinking)
The poem Speechless by Kyra Lee, was from a perspective of child an elder sister in fact. It was said in the poem that their mother can’t do anything while his father’s home. She shuts quite and they run to their rooms and doesn’t make any sound.
Their father was constantly mad at them for somehow no reason, he drinks and physically abuses them whenever they were in his vision. The two sisters truly shows fear towards their father which is the man of the house.
But one time her sister failed to keep quiet and yelled at their father, expectedly their father got mad and started beating her up. It seems that their father no longer was in the right mind. He took a short break and just watches her till the last of her breath.
The elder sister Sasha got noticed later on by her father, he then yelled at her blaming that it was her fault that-that thing happen. The title Speechless was from the last part of the poem where Sasha, the older sister who watched her sister takes one last breath refuses to speak anymore. For she blames herself for speaking towards her father and angering him to the point she lost her sister.
The characters of the poem Speechless:Leigh- the younger daughter; sister of Sasha Sasha- the eldest sister Mother- oppressed mother who just keeps quiet when her husband’s home Father- the one who inflicted mental and physical trauma to his own family

The poem "Speechless" by Kyra Lee is all about a dysfunctional and abusive family. The poem reveals how Sasha, 6 and Leigh, 3 were abused by their father. The two are best friends and are together through the abuses. It also shows us a typical scene, a mother not doing anything about the abuses, perhaps for fear of her own life and just resorts to drinking. The story tragically ends when Sasha was killed for speaking up while Sasha was not able to do anything about it. The loss plus the guilt of not speaking up made a toll on Sasha's conscience and psyche.Republic Act 7610
The Philippines has a law protecting children against child abuse. This is the "Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act." In this law specific penalties are to be imposed for those who commit crimes against children such as child trafficking, sexual and physical abuse are subject to incarceration and fine. What is sad is that even with this law, there is still a growing number of children who are exploited.Child Abuse at Home
Recent data indicate that most children who are abused are abused by someone they know at home or in the neighborhood. As much as 60% of physical abuses (beating, etc) happen where they should be safest, their homes. The only way this can be stopped is to ensure that we report the cases--but as seen in the poem--it is really difficult to stand up to abuse, because you also fear for your own safety.
