During the early years of schooling, we are taught of the basics of Mathematics. This includes but not limited to the basic operations which are, addition, subtraction, multiplication and divison. Moving forward to the middle years, we are taught now of the Basic Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry and other stuffs more advanced than the primary years. One of the concerns of the statisticians in studying data is the measure of position. Measures of Position tells us about the role of a specific value in the given data.
Measures of position give us a way to see where a certain value falls in a sample or distribution A measure can tell us whenever the value is about the average, or whether it's lower or higher than the average.Common Measures of Position
4. Standard Score
Quartiles is a measure of position that divides the data into four equal parts, so basically it has three positions namely first quartile, second quartile, and third quartile.
Decile is a measure of position that divides the data into ten equal parts. This means that it has nine positions, namely tenth decile, twentieth decile, thirtieth decile, . . . , ninetieth decile.
Percentile is a measure of position that divides the data into hundred equal parts. It's naming process is the same as the previous measures.
Standard Score is very useful when the data is normally distributed. This can tell how many standard deviations it is from the mean.
