What is Mathematics?

Mathematics comes from the Greek word mathema, which means, science, knowledge ,or learning. Hence, Mathematics is the science or study of numbers and their operations, interrelations, combinations, generalizations, and abstractions and of space configurations and their structure, measurement, transformations, and generalizations science of numbers.

Mathematics in School

Mathematics in school is one of the core subjects of the curriculum in our educational system. This subject help us learn the different operations, problem solving techniques, formulas and a lot more number and problem-related operations. More so, the subject follows a spiral pattern, from Basic Mathematics to Advanced Mathematics.

During the early years of schooling, we are taught of the basics of Mathematics. This includes but not limited to the basic operations which are, addition, subtraction, multiplication and divison. Moving forward to the middle years, we are taught now of the Basic Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry and other stuffs more advanced than the primary years. Lastly, during college days, we are taught a lot of things more advanced than in the intermediate level.

Mathematics in Life

People might think, especially people who hate Mathematics, that it is just one of those useless subjects that only brings burden in school life and that the basic operations are enough to sustain and apply in life.

However, Mathematics in our life actually plays a significant role. As we all know Mathematics does not end only in the basic operations, it has also a lot of advanced operations and problem solvings. From all these operations, we are taught to think analytically and have better problem solving skills.

Having an analytical thinking skills in life help us to think critically about the world we have. From being an analytical thinker, that we are able to understand life around us and deal with those without any problem. In other words, analytical thinking helps us thrive in our day to dat journey in this world.

Moreover, we can say that problem solving does not exist only in Mathematics, in real life, we also deal with it. That is, through Mathematics we are able to develop and enhance our problem solving skills. Having problem solving skills helps us solve problems logically and reasonably and be able to look for solutions.

Insights about MathematicsMathematics is more than just dealing with numbers.Mathematics is life. You do not need to love Mathematics, you just have to be friend with it.It is a tool of knowledge. It is application of rule.
